The purpose of this program is to support research experiences for predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in science (Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian/Alaskan Native, or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander), under the primary mentorship of current AHA awardees.

Only currently funded AHA faculty awardees with at least two years of funding remaining on the original award term at the time of application (April 1, 2021) may apply to serve as the primary mentor in the joint application with the eligible trainee from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. The predoctoral or postdoctoral candidate must be identified by the primary mentor in the joint application submission.

Please complete the UI Routing Form/process to secure departmental and collegiate approvals at least five business days before the AHA submission deadline.
 UIowa Completion/Routing deadline: March 18, 2021.
AHA deadline April 1, 2021

Applicants must be AHA Professional Partners at the time of application; this is done online. Join or begin the partner process well before the deadline.

Please apply as early as you can. The AHA has converted the application process from its own system, to using ProposalCentral, and there are still issues with this conversion.
