American Heart Association AHA Programs with Summer 2019 Deadlines
The American Heart Association is accepting applications for 2019 Summer Cycle programs, as listed below. Applicants must complete their applications within the AHA Grants@Heart system and, once finished, click on the Submit to Grants Officer option; this will release the application to the UI Division of Sponsored Programs DSP for review and submission to AHA.
In order for DSP to do its part, applicants must be sure to:
a) Select John Keller as Grant Officer where prompted within the application form; and b) Complete the UI Routing Form/process to secure departmental and collegiate approvals at least five business days before the AHA submission deadline.

All Applicants must have AHA Professional Membership. Effective with deadlines after June 1, 2018, each applicant, including a Predoctoral or Postdoctoral Fellowship applicant, must be an AHA Professional Member. Applicants may join or renew membership via the Grants@Heart application site. You may also join or renew by phoning the AHA at 301-223-2307 or 800-787-8984. Membership processing takes 3-5 days. Please do not wait until the application deadline to renew or join. For all new awards, awardees must maintain AHA Professional Membership for the entire term of funding. AHA awardees may use their AHA funding to pay AHA membership dues.
Some AHA programs permit resubmission of the same or similar application (similar aims) as one submitted previously, up to three times (the original plus two resubmissions). In 2019-20, the resubmission option is available for the Institutional Undergraduate Student Fellowship Program, AHA Predoctoral Fellowship, AHA Postdoctoral Fellowship, Career Development Award, and AHA Institutional Research Enhancement Award (AIREA).
AHA Predoctoral Fellowship
This award enhances the integrated research and clinical training of promising students who are matriculated in pre-doctoral or clinical health professional degree training programs and who intend careers as scientists, physician-scientists or other clinician-scientists, or related careers aimed at improving global cardiovascular health.

AHA deadline: August 14, 2019.
AHA Postdoctoral Fellowship
This fellowship enhances the integrated research and clinical training of postdoctoral applicants who are not yet independent. The applicant must be embedded in an appropriate research group with the mentorship, support, and relevant scientific guidance of a research supervisor.

AHA deadline August 15, 2019.
Institutional Undergraduate Student Fellowship [Institutional Award]
This award is made to qualified research institutions that can offer meaningful research experiences that support the mission of the American Heart Association to undergraduate college students. The program director is the applicant for this award.
UIowa Completion/Routing deadline: September 11, 2019.
AHA deadline: September 18, 2019.
AHA Merit Award
This program funds highly promising investigators with stellar track records of accomplishment, demonstrated by federal or equivalent funding [NIH, AHRQ, HRSA, etc.] from multiple sources and excellent publication records with accelerating impact, who have the potential to move a field of science forward with creative approaches that are aligned with the mission of the American Heart Association.
The required Letter of Intent LOI must be submitted to your institution’s Grants Officer.

LOI National Deadline: July 26, 2019

Strategically Focused Research Networks (SFRN)
The topics of the next two networks are:
* Cardiometabolic Health with a focus on Diabetes - LOI strongly encouraged due June 25, 2019. Full application due August 13, 2019.
* Health Technology and Innovation (apps, wearables, equipment, etc.).
The AHA is interested in exploring the etiology, prevention or treatment of cardiovascular disease or stroke in specific areas, which can assist the AHA in reaching its 2020 Goals and overall mission of building healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. A Network is comprised of three to five institutions, or Centers, working on projects focusing on one strategic area. An institution may submit only one AHA strategically focused research network application for any SFRN competition. Interested applicants are requested to contact Cheryl Ridgeway in the OVPR firstname.lastname@example.org.
The SFRN Letter of Intent LOI and/or application must be submitted to your institution’s Grants Officer at least 5 business days prior to the AHA deadline.
