The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to support research activities that will assist with the prevention, detection, and management of international travelers who become ill during or after travel. The project must have a focus on travel and tropical medicine providers with the capability to participate in research to determine the disease prevention strategies, burden, severity, optimal diagnostics, treatment interventions, and outcomes of infectious diseases acquired while traveling abroad. This research will bridge the gap between clinical medicine and public health by assisting with improving patient care, better understanding the natural history of disease, and implementing optimal diagnostic and treatment strategies, with the ultimate outcome being an advancement in the global health security of the United States.
