Preventing Violence Affecting Young Lives (PREVAYL) requires recipients to
1) implement community and society level strategies and approaches that address all forms of violence impacting children and youth,
2) develop and/or enhance a jurisdictional violence prevention strategic plan,
3) develop and implement an evaluation plan,
4) develop a sustainability plan, and
5) participate in a multi-sector collaborative entity.

Applicants must demonstrate a strong understanding of the public health approach to violence prevention and have experience implementing youth violence prevention strategies.
Component I – Implementation of community and societal level strategies, and expansion of Dating Matters.
Component I applicants must be implementing an individual/relationship level Dating Matters program, such as Safe Dates, Dating Matters, or Families for Safe Dates. The applicant may use a portion of funding to enhance the existing Dating Matters program and the larger portion of funding to implement 2-3 prevention strategies at the community and societal levels. Strategies implemented at the outer levels of the social-ecological model should prevent multiple forms of violence impacting children and youth and complement the implementation of the existing Dating Matters strategy.
Component II – Implementation of community and societal level strategies.
Component II applicants are expected to implement 2-3 strategies that prevent multiple forms of violence impacting children and youth, at the community and societal levels of the social ecological model. The implementation of strategies at the outer levels of the SEM funded by this proposal should complement the implementation of existing individual/relationship-level strategies.
