The purpose of this NOFO is to improve the understanding of radiation science to better protect the American public, workers and emergency responders from exposure to radiation from natural, environmental, medical and occupational sources as well as nuclear disasters. The results of this work will help improve the understanding of radiation science by the radiation protection community and will assist in making public health decisions by federal, state and local public health agencies.
Measurable outcomes of the program will be in alignment with one (or more) of the following performance goal(s) for the NCEH:
*Determine human health effects associated with environmental exposures.
*Prevent or reduce illness, injury and death related to environmental factors.
*Build and enhance effective partnerships to improve environmental health capacity.
