CPH Scientific Staff Advancement Award

Goal

This award, funded by the College of Public Health Research Office, aims to support the professional advancement of College of Public Health Professional and Scientific Staff, recognizing the critical role that scientific staff play in the collegiate research enterprise and the need for resources to support professional growth. Because staff have diverse roles and needs, this award is flexible and intended to support self-defined activities that advance professional growth among our staff.  The funds are not intended to cover salary, but salary support will be considered if it is well justified.  We cannot fund certificates separate from training, please reach out to our office if your proposal involves certification costs.  The funds can be requested by an individual staff member or a group of staff.

The focus is on research staff development, and priority will be given to activities that also provide some benefit to the staff member’s unit and existing scope of work without supplanting work already being conducted. Applications should clearly indicate how the proposed activity will advance leadership and professional development for the awardee(s).  Awardees may be required to submit a brief wrap-up report to describe their activities, experience, and impact of the award.

Examples of potential activities that can be funded include but are not limited to:

  • Research projects or activities that the applicant leads
  • Professional development activities and/or training
  • Travel for professional development
  • Inviting speakers or collaborators to campus
  • Community/partner engagement events
