The Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), U.S. Department of Labor  USDOL , announces the availability of approximately $8,000,000 total costs (subject to the availability of Federal funds) for one cooperative agreement to fund a technical assistance project in Mexico to improve adherence to international labor standards in the agriculture sector. The project will aim to achieve the following outcomes: 

  • Outcome 1: Increased capacity of government officials to enforce labor laws specifically related to child labor, forced labor, occupational safety and health and other acceptable conditions of work in the agriculture sector. 
  • Outcome 2: Increased compliance with labor laws, including occupational safety and health and other acceptable conditions of work, by private sector stakeholders in the agriculture sector.
  • Outcome 2.1: Increased private sector use of tools and resources available for compliance with labor laws, including occupational safety and health and other acceptable conditions of work, in the agriculture sector.
  • Outcome 3: Increased knowledge about labor rights and options for accessing remediation of labor law violations.

The project must use an area-based approach in agricultural areas, including in sugarcane growing areas, in the state of Nayarit and one of the following other states: Jalisco, Michoacán, or Puebla. The duration of the project will be a maximum of four years (48 months) from the effective date of the award.
