Description

Through this opportunity, BJA seeks to fund an accredited university of higher education or an accredited law school to manage the National Center on Restorative Justice, with the overall purpose of educating and training the next generation of justice leaders.

The National Center on Restorative Justice (Center) has two purposes:

  1. Educate and train the next generation of juvenile and criminal justice leaders. The Center will engage and challenge undergraduate, graduate, and law students to broaden their understanding of criminal justice systems and restorative approaches. The award recipient will manage this training to include criminal justice professionals, community members, educators, and social service providers, at the state, regional, and national levels. Approaches will include development of a degree program, a summer-term institute, and/or brief courses, while encouraging access to educational opportunities for incarcerated individuals.
  2. Support for research focusing on how best to provide direct services to address social inequities such as simultaneous access to substance abuse treatment and higher education. This research support may include a combination of approaches, including conducting research, developing research agendas and approaches, and translating research in the area of restorative justice.
