FY 2018 Global Sports Mentoring Program

The Office of Citizen Exchanges, Sports Diplomacy Division, in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces an open competition for the FY 2018 Global Sports Mentoring Program (GSMP). U.S. public and private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3) may submit proposals to conduct two separate month-long professional development mentorship programs, Sport for Community GSMP and the espnW GSMP, and a reciprocal overseas exchange involving approximately 80 international and American participants in total. By empowering women and people with disabilities, the GSMP directly supports U.S. foreign policy goals, promotes social inclusion, and elevates the status of marginalized populations. Through the mentorship experience, the GSMP encourages mutually beneficial relationships between American sports executives and leaders in the sports sector overseas. 

Applicant organizations may submit only one proposal under this competition. If multiple proposals are received from the same applicant, all submissions will be declared ineligible and receive no further consideration in the review process.

Many Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) opportunities are limited to one application per organization.  University of Iowa applicants are requested to contact Cheryl Ridgeway  cheryl-a-ridgeway@uiowa.edu  in the Office of the Vice President for Research one month prior to the deadline if interested in applying to this opportunity, to certify application guidelines are met and to avoid disqualification. If multiple proposals are received from the same applicant organization, all submissions will be declared ineligible.
