The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has launched four requests for proposals – all now open for applications – through the Grand Challenges Global Call-to-Action, inaugurating this new member of the Grand Challenges family of initiatives.

- Building Malaria Modeling Capacity in Sub-Saharan Africa - the majority of the work proposed must be undertaken by African scientists at African institutions.
- Digital Health Services for Pregnant Women to Support Antenatal Risk Stratification in Sub-Saharan Africa - must be developed and/or actively supported, and delivered in sub-Saharan Africa.
- Innovations in Eliminating Neglected Tropical Diseases NTD - lead investigator must be from an NTD-endemic country.
- Metagenomic Next Generation Sequencing to Detect, Identify, and Characterize Pathogens - The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative will jointly offer funding for 10 scientific groups to explore the identification, characterization, and context of infectious disease in Low and Low Middle Income Countries LMIC settings.
