Limited to one application per institution.

HRSA solicitations generally limit the number of applications that may go forward in response to a specific solicitation.  Please email a one-page abstract about your proposal to cheryl-a-ridgeway@uiowa.edu in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development with a cc to the Division of Sponsored Programs DSP era@uiowa.edu  or dsp@uiowa.edu  as soon as possible, but at least 30 days in advance of the deadline.  If we receive multiple abstracts in response to a given solicitation, a review will be conducted to select the applicant to submit on behalf of the University of Iowa.  Application materials are due in DSP at least 5 business days prior to the deadline.

A two-generational approach focuses on creating opportunities for and addressing needs of both vulnerable children and their parents together. It prioritizes and facilitates coordination of programs and services needed to address the additive effects of poverty and geographic isolation on early childhood health and development. A holistic-family based approach acknowledges the importance of the family in shaping health and developmental outcomes for children.

The overarching goal of the Rural Health IMPACT program is to implement evidence based two-generational strategies that promote health and well-being of children (prenatally to age 3) and create economic opportunities for their families. This includes: 1) ensuring rural children and their families have access to critical health, development, education, and family support services that are aligned and coordinated; 2) improving early identification of and intervention for high-risk families who have experienced or are at-risk for adverse childhood experiences, maternal depression and other mental health issues, substance use disorders including opioid use and related neonatal abstinence syndrome, as well as other factors that lead to poor health and social outcomes for rural families; and 3) developing, implementing, and expanding two-generational strategies that effectively link children and their families to services to encourage: a) children’s healthy development; and b) help families overcome barriers to achieving economic security and self-sufficiency.
