The Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) is a mission designed to measure polarization of X-ray sources in the 2–8 keV band. Following the completion of IXPE's prime mission in January 2024, NASA is initiating a General Observer (GO) program. The IXPE GO Program solicits proposals for investigations in any area of astrophysics (not constrained to address IXPE’s prime science areas).

IXPE Cycle 1 observations will commence on or about February 1, 2024, and continue for a nominal period of 12 months. Limited funding may be made available for GO grants. Further details on the Cycle 1 program may be found on the IXPE GO Program website at https://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/ixpe/proposals/ao1/propguide.html.

Individuals may submit proposals for observations with IXPE or for theoretical investigations that will advance the IXPE mission science return. Observing proposals may be for "standard-mode," "Target-of-Opportunity" (ToO, see Section 1.3.2) or “Large Program” (LP, see Section 1.3.5) observations. In addition to proposals for ToO observations submitted in response to this program element, unanticipated requests for ToO observations (see Section 1.3.3) may be made through the IXPE Science Operations Center at any time.

Notice of Intent is optional and due Sept. 18, 2023.
