This Funding Opportunity Announcement is to solicit and award research and development grants to educate and train the next generation of engineers and scientists by supporting novel, early-stage research at U.S. colleges and universities.
The targeted Areas of Interest (AOIs) for the FY2022 announcement are the following:
- AOI 1A – Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) and Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) Screening of Net-Zero or Net-Negative Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission, Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS)-Enabled, Coal/Waste Coal and Biomass Power Production
- AOI 1B – Resource Development Site Assessments to Inform Lifecycle Analysis (LCA)/Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA)
- AOI 2 – Phytotechnology Development for Identification and/or Remediation of Sites Exhibiting Soil Contamination via Groundwater Transport of Metals from Coal Combustion Product Impoundments
- AOI 3 – Automated Component Inspection, Analysis, and Repair Enabled by Robotics
