NSF S-STEM is limited to “one proposal from each constituent school or college that awards degrees in an eligible field."  Eligible University of Iowa faculty must first contact their collegiate associate dean for research (or equivalent) with their interest in submitting a proposal, as soon as possible and at least by March 8, 2021, to ensure only one proposal per college goes forward to the NSF.

S-STEM Eligible Disciplines:

  • Biological sciences (except medicine and other clinical fields)
  • Physical sciences (including physics, chemistry, astronomy, and materials science)
  • Mathematical sciences
  • Computer and information sciences
  • Geosciences
  • Engineering
  • Technology fields associated with the disciplines above (e.g. biotechnology, chemical technology, engineering technology, information technology)
