The Pew Charitable Trusts invites the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences to nominate a candidate for the 2018 Pew Scholars Program in Biomedical Sciences Award. Applications are no longer limited only to ocular diseases, but are also invited from nominees whose research is related to the aging brain. Interested University of Iowa faculty should submit their biosketch and brief description of the project to Rochelle Galbraith at 356-0827  rochelle-galbraith@uiowa.edu by July 7, 2017. The name of the nominee is due to the Pew Charitable Trusts by July 17.

The Pew Scholars Program supports assistant professors of outstanding promise in science relevant to the advancement of human health. The award provides $240,000 in flexible support - $60,000 per year for a four-year period.  In 2018, the Pew Charitable Trusts will name 22 Pew Scholars.

1. Candidates must have been awarded a doctorate in biomedical sciences or medicine.
2. As of October 23, 2917, nominees must hold full-time appointments at the rank of assistant professor.
3. On July 7, 2017, candidates must have been in such appointment for less than three years (not appointed before July 7, 2014), whether or not such an appointment was on a tenure track.
4. Candidates may be nominated twice in total.
