Call for abstracts

On behalf of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center HCCC Sarcoma Multidisciplinary Oncology Group, we are requesting the submission of projects to be considered for seed funding.  Our goal is to support sarcoma-related pilot projects and enhance multidisciplinary collaboration throughout the University of Iowa.  Proposals can address any aspect of sarcoma tumorigenesis, metastasis, epidemiology, diagnosis, surveillance, or treatment.  Projects focusing on basic science and clinical science are equally welcome.  Preliminary data is not required for submitted project ideas.

Accepted proposals will be presented as 5-15 minute oral presentations during the Symposium on February 13, 2016.  This format will serve as a means to present the scientific goals of a project, elicit feedback from a diverse audience, identify potential collaborators, and increase the feasibility of a project. Based on the presentation, a peer review panel of clinicians and basic scientists will determine the duration and level of funding appropriate for individual proposals 1-2 weeks after the symposium. Our goal is to have funds available for use by the investigative team in May of 2016.  Awards may range from $5,000-20,000.

In 1-2 pages, please include a brief background and rationale for the study, proposed methods, results (if any), an anticipated budget, and potential relevance and impact on understanding and/or treating sarcoma .

Abstracts and registration are due by 5pm on Friday, January 22nd. Any questions and all submissions should be directed to julianna-bemboom@uiowa.edu. Everyone is welcome to register. You do not have to submit an abstract to attend.

Thank you,

Drs. Ben Miller, Munir Tanas, and Mo Milhem
