William T. Grant Scholars program allows one nomination per college, i.e. College of Education, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Nursing, College of Public Health, etc. Interested applicants must contact their collegiate Associate Dean for Research or Dean regarding their application as soon as possible. This is to ensure only one nomination is put forth per college.

The online application opens April 30, 2020, and the mentor and reference letter deadline is June 19, 2020 by 5:00 PM EST.
The deadline for full proposals is July 1, 3:00 PM EST. Please see the attached guidelines for details; UIowa applicants can contact Cheryl Ridgeway  cheryl-a-ridgeway@uiowa.edu  in the OVPR if they have questions.

Researchers interested in applying for a William T. Grant Scholars Award must select one focus area:

  • Reducing Inequality - supports studies that aim to build, test, or increase understanding of programs, policies, or practices to reduce inequality in the academic, social, behavioral, or economic outcomes of young people, especially on the basis of race, ethnicity, economic standing, language minority status, or immigrant origins.
  • Improving the Use of Research Evidence - supports research to identify, build, and test strategies to ensure that research evidence is used in ways that benefit youth. We are particularly interested in research on improving the use of research evidence by state and local decision makers, mid-level managers, and intermediaries.
